Our curriculum

Letters and Sounds

Phase 1 of letters and sounds concentrates on developing children's speaking and listening skills and lays the foundations for their Phonic work which starts in Reception. The emphasis during phase 1 is to get children attuned to the sounds around them and ready to begin developing oral blending and segmenting skills.

"Look at us exploring the outdoor area and discovering how different sounds are made by tapping or stroking with our spoons."

Talk for Writing

Each term we learn to tell a new 'Pie Corbett' inspired story. By learning a story children begin to have an awareness of story structure and language. In order to help with this we draw story maps and add actions to the story and regularly practise retelling it!

"If you can't say it, a child can't write it."- Pie Corbett

'Can Do Maths'

Our Maths teaching helps develop a secure and deep understanding of Maths. We love singing counting sounds, play games and exploring Mathematical equipment in our provision.

Real PE

To prepare the children for PE lessons in Reception we use the Real PE scheme of work in nursery. The program uses physical activity as the driver for children's learning. The child led approach develops children's physical, emotional and thinking skills.
